Prince George's County, Maryland

Food Access Coalition & Farmers Council

A growing group of small farms working together on grants, land, education, and getting fresh food to the neighbors who need it most. Convened by Sennel Gardens with Good Governance Consulting.

Why we exist

Small farms do better when they stop applying alone.

Every farm in this group was writing grant applications, chasing cold storage, and looking for land on its own. The Council puts that work in one place. We share resources, find each farm's niche, set priorities together, and let partners and funders understand what we do without having to ask.

We stay rooted and true to the earth. The grant work is what brought us together, and it stays at the center.

What we work on

Four things, done together.

Education

Beginner farmer training, community and school farm tours, 4-H and youth partnerships, beekeeping classes, crop planning, and mental health for the people who grow our food.

Advocacy

Land access for small growers, keeping farm-zoned land in farming, the Prince George's Food Task Force recommendations, and getting fresh produce into school cafeterias.

Funding

One shared grant calendar. Applications written once and reused. Letters of support from member farms. Clean paper trails for every farm.

Food Access

Working families need one place to buy fresh food. Farm stands, delivery, and food hubs in the neighborhoods that do not have them.

Newsletter

Follow the Council.

Grant deadlines, farm tours, meeting dates, and what the farms are growing. A few emails a season, never more.
